Bad players make the best admins

That hasn’t really been my experience.
Most players are very kind to me when i mod, but of course we are bound to run into the worst people.
Maybe the situation has slightly changed, in this last year.

Yeah, the current system is slow, I agree, but the only way to fix it is by getting more admins (I think).

Almost 1400 hours here. I’m too erratic to be a reliable admin. Have been tempted with mentorship but, meh.

I only have an app due to a meme and someone suggesting I should do it in the general chat on beecord. I regret ever making it and I wish I could delete it.

Previously my mental health was waaay too far shot to actually handle adminning and to a degree, it still is. I merely wish to focus on getting my life in check rather than mulling over chat and action logs. I also don’t play a bunch as it is.

Even then, I don’t really desire admin power. I just wish to game.

Absolutely understandable, I hope you’re doing good!

Throwing more admins on the issue isnt gonna solve it, the obligatory player report plan proved it. Making better tools for logging and making those logs more accesible for admins are ways but that takes WAY more effort than throwing admins on the issue and hoping that will solve it (it wont)

From what I’ve seen, logs haven been made easily accessible to admins.
I also have never heard that was an issue, so things must have changed, i assume.

im pretty sure youre implying about a certain webtool, which has existed for a year now yet the problem remains the same, and that tool still doesnt adress the issue, insufficent logging which can lead to more workload due to longer time for investigations

Probably denied because I’m not squeaky clean :frowning:

you would be suprised what kind of shitters got accepted into the admin team

pretty sure someone tried, and got a unilateral no from crossed and ike for server resource reasons.

Admins don’t have enough freedom to DM and improve stale rounds or make them more interesting. Last I checked, permission to interfere with a round is always only given by higher staff. I would be more inclined to take on admin work if it also meant that I could entertain the server with VV antics while keeping things interesting.

This game gets so predictable when you’ve played it long enough, admin events are exempt from this and have quickly become my favourite part of playing on a server.

Wasn’t this way for pretty much the entire time I adminned and being able to act as a DM and drive rounds and entertain people in creative ways was by far my favorite part of being an admin. Admins aren’t allowed to run full-scale events without a senior’s approval, but you can absolutely interfere with rounds in less extreme ways.

There’s a lot of admins being afraid to take control of the round because of how asshurt and salty people get when they learn an admin indirectly caused something which inconvenienced them, so there’s a certain necessity to be stealthy about what you do if you don’t want to deal with the people who feel entitled to to having their plans go without a hitch.

Former Mentor here. I like to say that while not formally recognized, being part of the development bloc counts in my book since it entails working closely with maintainers and having more productive design discussions.

Time is my big thing. I have friends who like playing other games, and SS13 isn’t a “bring your friends” sort of multiplayer, so I generally get sucked into whatever else is being played.

Yeah, there’s definitely the issue where, even doing everything right you can still be subject to babyrage.

When you’re paid, it’s bearable(plenty of babyrage as a T2 tech), and even then sometime it’ll have you sit there and contemplate finding a new job. But unpaid and thanks only comes from going above and beyond(IE: being Cae) is rough.

Nobody wrote code for it(that I know of).

The idea was however not well liked by them for that reason.

of course it does! contributing to the game takes as much (if not even more) time and effort than adminning.
And yeah I couldn’t really get my friends into SS13 either, not their thing :sleepy:

Maybe things now have changed.
Minor bus doesn’t need senior approval, and admins are almost begged to run events (which yeah need to be approved by seniors + in game poll)
