I am suggesting AGAIN that the Grab Intent be modified for more combative capabilities.
I am NOT suggesting you make it all-powerful. I will explain this in the TPME (Task Purpose Method Effects) format.
Task: Recode the Grab Intent abilities with combative abilities.
Purpose: To create a form of fighting that is FAR less likely to crit or kill players.
Method: Making it possible to Legsweep, Pin and Choke/Submission Hold from the Grab Intent.
Effect: Less accidental crits, kills, allowing players to prank, fight, restrain and resist same more safely, resulting in less ahelps for Admins to deal with.
Too often, players engage in fisticuffs, toolbox robusting and the like with the intent of dropping them but not killing them, unaware or without the time to tell if the player is antag or pranking and whether or not they have already sustained damage. Counting blows, adding up attack force, all skills that cannot compensate adequately for whatever might already be wrong with the attacking player, as well as lag affecting it if you’re clicking constantly.
This has been a pain in the @$$ for players and admins to deal with. Lately, I’ve noticed Admins sometimes have 5 or 6 ahelps to deal with upon ENTRY, let alone any extra added on. Also, more than a few times I’ve ended up critting or killing a player then rushing them to Medbay because of a miscount or overescalation where I tried to avoid being a victim unsure if the player is antag or not. Also, I’ve BEEN critted or killed in such a situation and could tell it was unintentional, at least by one player.
Other servers have additions to the Grab intent that allow for a method of fighting that allows them to be found blatantly guilty by constantly harming or allow them to stun or throw down and pin or simply throw down and leave.
BayStation and I think YogStation have this time of Grab ability. The stun from Shove knocking down lasts just a BIT longer, allowing you the time to do 2 Grabs.
Grab 1 = You simply grab them.
Grab 2 = FIRMLY grab them (resist can break but not perfectly.
Grab 2 + Harm intent = Short stun attack that has the description “Player A knocks the wind out of you with a knee strike to the gut!”
Grab 2 + Throw = Throws them a distance with a SHORT stun. Can only be done once in Grab 2.
Grab 3 = Legsweep (like from Krav Maga gloves) but the player is still Grabbed whil ehe is on the ground. (Resist can still break free but they will be on the ground for a second).
Grab 4 = Pin, player is held down on the ground with the description “Player A pins your wrists to the ground!” Resist can still break free but has a lower success rate.
Grab 4 + Harm intent = Ground strike, does double damage but takes time to recharge (Can only be done once so many seconds). Resist can still break free, but after strike has a higher success rate.
Grab 5 = Choke/Submission hold. On one server I used to play, it would cause oxy damage until pass out. Took some time. Can’t resist out of it. In another server, every click would cause damage to a body part (usually the torso).
LET ME BE CLEAR: Very open to modification, to BeeStation doing it differently. But seriously, consider it or something LIKE it. LESS “bwoinks” for admins. More ways to determine if crit/kill was intentional or not in a faster, easier way. More ways for players to fight (which they will always do) that won’t cause critts or kills by accident.
I really think it would be better for everyone and the need for shoves, grabbing so many times and so forth would STILL make it inferior to Krav Maga gloves or Sleeping Carp.
