Let’s be honest here, we’re somewhat lacking on custom speech modifiers for different spechies.
Every tongue gets a custom normal speech modifier, but not yelling, exclaiming and asking, only Oozelings get that.
So, I’m making this thread to gather suggestions from people on what they should be for different tongues. I got the go a-head to make it a PR from Bacon, but he said ‘they can’t be too long’.
So, what I’m looking for is a custom modifier for whispering, asking a question, yelling and exclaiming.
I’ll add a list of accepted ones in a bit.
For reference, here’s the human list :
Say - says
Whisper - whispers
Ask - asks
Yell - yells
Exclaim - exclaims
First impression: not a fan of some of these. I think I’d rather have no special say mod than having an unfitting one just for the sake of completion. Case in point are the felinid ones especially. Chirrups being high pitched yelps does not fit a whisper in the slightest and I would rather have something like “purrs” or even just whispers, moving chirps/chirrups to the yell instead since hisses are inherently giving off a negative connotation to yelling.
Could suggest “Buzzes” for Ethereals as well, even if bees already use it. It’s still fitting and they don’t all need to be exclusive or even different from default since that will just end up being extremely limiting or contrived which I can already see with some of these;
Hisses or wails for Plasmemes maybe. Clatters for the bone-sounds;
Ticks, whirrs, chings, clicks for clockwork golems, could work for IPCs as well;
Drones for zombies;
Also, for consistency, you should keep them all as either “X-es loudly” or “loudly X-es” since right now they’re a mix.
