Should they have Medbay access on high-pop or not?
Currently they only have basic Medbay access on low-pop, this was a somewhat recent change too with mixed opinions.
After witnessing a confused Brig Phys attempt to enter Medbay but to their surprised they were denied entry, I made a PR to give them this access by default.
I can see why players would want it, but it reinforces the bad habit of brig physician being more of a medical doctor with a side responsibility rather than a full responsibility job. I personally donât think thereâs enough to justify the job in the first place but itâs a better solution than what we had.
While brig phys exists, I believe they should have medbay access simply because thatâs where theyâll have to go to get basically anything related to their job.
Meanwhile, though, I believe the more long-term solution is treating it like security itself. Officers can join assigned to a department - a doctor should be able to join assigned to the brig as well, functionally replacing the job.
Câmon man. Mentors should be aware of changes made. 3 months is beyond the grace period.
That is exactly why it was changed. They are not âjust medical staffâ, they are staff whose sole purpose is to treat prisoners and security officers first.
A brig physician is not a medical doctor with security access. Nor are they a little goblin that has med access to steal and make their own medbay in brig.
If they need to reinforce medbay during lowpop? That makes sense. Thats why they have skeleton access.
Reinforce during highpop? Ok talk to the CMO or HOP.
In addition to the previous, they were incredibly powerful as they could roll antag and start with both security and medbay access.
Hi, Brig Phys main here. I personally believe that the fact whether or not Brig Phys starts WITH or WITHOUT Medical access is honestly pointless. You can very easily access both Medical and Brig without much of an issue at all from either side. Let me explain why from the perspective of not having medical access to begin with during a high pop round.
Getting access to the medical lathe is INCREDIBLY easy as a brig phys. Letâs say one of my officers went down and they were a plasmaman who lost an arm that was unrecoverable. You need to get a new arm with a heart to revive them. So what do you do without access? You can A, ask one of the many doctors who are staffed in medbay to let you in to get a spare prosthetic arm (unless itâs corg that starts with one) and print a new heart from the lathe. No one is going to bat an eye that youâre in there unless you need to be let out. Itâs only more of a time hassle that you donât have access. B, since all of the doctors are busy with their own dead, you can ask the very generous AI who just happens to be on crewsimov or Asimov+ (or whatever) to help you into the lathe to get your stuff! C, if the AI hates you or is dead or just isnât available, you can always ask robotics to get you a heart and a better arm than one of the ones in medical. There are many ways to circumvent this.
You shouldnât really be focusing on the Crew! Your goal is to keep your officers (and sometimes command) alive, so you should try and be near them at all times. Thereâs a gunfight in the bar? Stand around the area with your stretcher to take away your injured officers! Most likely an antag isnât going to go for you if youâre not a threat. Itâs red and thereâs a bunch of crazy cultists running around, killing the crew? Hunker down in brig, take a mindshield, and try to help deconvert the cultists who have been brainwashed into such devilish beliefs to turn the tides of this religious war! Nukies are invading the station?!.. Well, youâre probably going to be given all access anyways, so you can be wherever you wanna be, doing whatever you think is important.
Having acces to medical as an antag⌠Really isnât that helpful? This one might be a bit controversial but out of all of the things you could start with, having access to security ALONE as an antag is probably WAY more detrimental to the station than medical. If youâre a heretic? Yeah, sure, the bodies in morgue might be useful when it comes time to ascend, but youâre not gonna need to have access round start if you can just teleport inside it. Or better yet, maybe you killed the CMO or a doctor or the captain to give yourself access. As for the syndicate? Literally all you need is one emag and the entire armory is yours (if the warden is blind or stupid and not paying attention to you walking directly into armory. Trust me, Iâve done that before.) All it takes on some maps is 3 charges to bolt open the doors, and one single charge to take out Sergeant Armsky. Then boom. All of their weapons is now yours!.. Meanwhile, in medical, you could maybe get use out of genetics. Or if your target is there, you can again, ask someone to let you in, toss a minibomb, and run the fuck out of there. As for a changeling, having access to the morgue would be helpful for some new disguises from the morgue, but if you look for a legion or some dead bodies down in lavalands since we have access to the gate now, or just look around hard enough in maints for a dead body to take a disguise of, you will probably be fine. I think the only antagonists that actually gets nerfed from losing out on the medbay access are revs and blood cult. Security are gonna question why youâre missing from security a lot, you canât convert your coworkers easily, and you lose on a very easy (and helpful) department to convert.
So honestly⌠If we lose out on medbay access, I literally do not care. I hope you enjoyed my rant about this
Actually, I was referring to how Corgâs Brig Phys room specifically starts with a box of prosthetics. Itâs the only map that has that for a brig physician! This does not change my mind in that Corg should be deleted though.
what if it is highpop and no medical staff? no access.
lowpop but full medbay staff? you still get acess.
I find this needs a rework of the system how extra acess is distributet as this can happen where the intended fucntion doesnt work.
I thought brig physicians already had it, or used to have it?
If there is no action happening with aecurity, brig physician can become very boring. This is the time, when I used to move and gry to give a hand in medbay or atleast work on some upgrade for future encounters.
Limiting brig phys only to brig, can make the job boring.
For my two cents I believe the forums say that if itâs quiet the brig phys can go assist in the medbay. Although it is shown as a âtipâ, so it isnât exactly SOP or their job role in a sense. I personally donât see why they shouldnât have access as them having a well set up brig medbay will ease the troubles of medbay themselves.
Them coming in to print / take stuff also makes sense to me as, yknow, theyâre a medical role. I feel like itâd be just an unneccesary annoyance for no legitimate reason from what I can see. Theyâre a medical role, it makes complete sense they would have access.
However, I donât strongly feel one way or another as I rarely play brig phys so it is what it is.
Medical is an incredibly popular role, whether it be medical doctor, paramedic, chemistry, or genetics. I have rarely seen it be empty on high pop. But if it were to happen, guess what. I can ask the AI for access. Or the HOP/captain. It is still a non issue.
Brig physicians are members of security, they are not medical personnel assigned to security and answer to the HOS and not the CMO. They have no responsibility inside of medbay, but are responsible for the wellfare of prisoners and officers.
It would help if brig physicians had a bit more responsibility. They only really have a job if something goes down that requires security, and if the responding security is hurt severely. Thatâs two big ifs that isnât true most of the time.
Maybe they can be the designated crime scene clean up crew on the side or something, itâs tough to give them anything extra without making it a power game job.
This is my two cents. Then, Make the security lathe print medical tools and defibs and the wall mounts. If they are not medical then they shouldnât have to use the medical lathe.
Imagine for a moment, Any job that requires their lathe that you like to play. now, Think how you would feel if that easy to access lathe is now behind access that job lacks.
Iâm not against the access being removed, however being unable to print Job dependent tools is frustrating.
Correct, But didnât Bacon say that They are Not medical? If they are not medical They should have to request Gear and supplies through the warden just like the detective and officers. Also, It would Further reinforce that they Security And not medical.
No way, brig physes are already parameds on crack when it comes to validhunting, giving them a baton so they can validhunt better is the opposite direction they should be going.
Kinda devolving into status quo mindlessness here. Like, okay, we donât want them to validhunt, but giving them a baton or tonfa shouldnât change that. It makes them a vaguely tougher opponent, but nowhere does having a weapon magically entitle you to chase antags around.
Ultimately though, whether its going in the officer lite direction or the doctor plus direction, both are better than the unfitting existence bp has currently.
