Your CKEY (Including any alts you have): BlueScope (Primary), throwaway9114 (Secondary, generally unused)
Your Discord Name (Including any alts you have): Ah. Yes. An interesting fact - if one deletes a Discord account, there is a two week lock on registering a new one with the same email that was used for the deleted account, for the purposes of “account recovery”. I’ve contacted Discord, and they’ve informed me that there is no way to shorten or remove this lock. The lock will expire on 5/29 or 5/30. I’m submitting this application ahead of time, so that appropriate discussion and judgement can occur - but fully expect not to receive official approval until my Discord is up again. It did occur to try and create a new email with which to register - but, another fun fact - all major providers now require you to submit a phone number to create an email, and Discord does not accept anything other than major providers.
How often are you online to play/admin? (Timezone): I am available most days, my timezone is EST.
What changes, if any, would you bring?: I would very much seek to enforce Rule 4 on Sage Station, to a much more strict degree than I currently see while playing.
How old are you?: I am 26 years old.
Why do you want to be an admin?: Because the current staff is severely lacking in administrators. I enjoy Bee, especially Sage, hugely - and both stations are the premier “general purpose” stations in my eyes.
How long have you been playing SS13?: It’s hard to say. Something like six or seven years?
How long have you been playing BeeStation?: I’ve only recently returned to the game, after a six month absence due to technical issues. I’ve been playing BeeStation’s Sage server for the vast bulk of my time since my return. It’s been something like two or three weeks? I can certainly see that limited period as being a reason not to approve my application, but I believe that my extensive experience outweighs the simple lack of playtime on these particular servers - and personally can’t see the impact of how more playtime would make me more suited to being an administrator, beyond assuring staff of my sanity.
On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in SS13?: About an 8 and a half. I’ve had at least a little play time logged on the majority of positions over the years. I know at least enough to minimally do my job on all positions, and in some - I pride myself on extreme efficiency. Particularly Chemistry, Science, and Cargo.
On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you as an admin?: In terms of familiarity with the technical aspects of the administrator panel, about a 4 - though only because it’s been years since I’ve done administration work. In terms of general attitude, rule knowledge, and my ability to actively assist players - a 9, easily.
Have you ever been an admin on another server? This is not limited to SS13: Over the years, many. I’ve administrated on quite a few roleplaying servers across various games. For Space Station 13, I endured the harrowing trial of being an administrator on Hippie Station for a few months, abandoning my post when I felt that the constant strain was impacting my ability to interact with players in a positive manner.
Do you have any alternate accounts on SS13? If so, could you provide their CKEY?: Please see my first entry. I have one alt, created because I temporarily lost my access to my main account.
Your strengths: I have several. From the perspective of being an administrator, I’d say my primary strength is my nearly limitless optimism. See above - it took several months of administration of Hippie Station to wear that down. I also have a wide degree of simple technical knowledge about the game, having coded for it in the past, and being more than able to read the code fluently.
Your weaknesses: My principal weakness is that I’d say I suffer burn-out slightly faster than others. This has yet to be tested on stations other than Hippie, but as I really do enjoy playing the game, the strain of having such a small pool of other administrators might pose a challenge.
Is there anything that gets you really mad, real fast?: Nothing. It’s my primary strength.
What do you think is the most important trait for a staff member to have?: My gut reaction is to say encyclopedic knowledge of the rules - but, more than that, it’s a positive attitude. Administrators are the front line. They’re the face of the server. They should be warm, welcoming, and willing to help.
What makes a staff team good?: Communication, above all other things. In order to maintain a stable population as a server, evolution of rules and code is absolutely necessary. Administrators should always be able to tell Coders commonly requested features, priority bugs, and so on. More than that, inter-administrator dialogue is vital for maintaining collective sanity, clarifying rules, etc.
What is a staff team’s purpose?: The purpose of the staff is to deliver a positive experience to every player who joins the server with the honest intentions of playing as the rules prescribe. Every facet of the staff should be in pursuit of this overarching goal.
What kind of player are you?: I’ve been many kinds of player over the years. My SS13 career started on Aurora, where I hugely enjoyed the heavy roleplaying elements. A couple years after that, Hippie was my primary station - with all the low-RP shenanigans that entails. Most recently, Bad Deathclaw/Gulch was a favorite - for an excellent mix of combat and RP (I was sad to see it go and replaced by the hugely inferior Desert Rose). My play style bends to the rules and expectations of the server I am currently playing. All that said, my style is a product of my both enjoying action, and roleplaying.
How do you think you will change once you become a staff member?: I won’t change, or will do my best not to, and I think that’s rather the point. If you’re not walking in the door with your head on straight, you don’t belong on staff.
The clown slips the HoS and steals his gun, spacing it right after. What do you do?: Nothing, this is an in-character conflict. Neither Bee servers are HRP. One could make an argument for a Rule 14 violation, but - given that the Clown’s job is to cause a little chaos - I’d think his action would fall neatly into that.
A non-antagonist is sabotaging the Atmospherics loop and pumping plasma into the distro, along with dragging around a canister and releasing it into the atmosphere. Assuming that another admin is cleaning up the after-effects, how do you conduct the ahelp with him?: I believe that the key to an effective resolution of a rule violation is being polite, clear, and direct. I would begin by confirming that the player in question really did do what is described above, before contacting them. Following that, I would ask them why they were doing it, to ensure that there are no mitigating circumstances (though, in this case - unlikely). If the person in question was unable to provide a reasonable answer, I would apply a ban of appropriate severity, based on precedents that I’d pick up while Trialing, and the number of notes on that player’s file.
A chemist who is working alone accidentally mixes an explosive mixture inside of his chem dispenser, instantly killing himself and destroying the machine, along with exposing Chemistry to space. Nobody else was injured aside from him as a result of his actions. What do you do?: Nothing. There is no rule against being unfamiliar with a job. If he or another party submitted an ahelp, I would direct the Chemist to the appropriate guide on the wiki. If it happened more than once, I’d likely apply a job ban.
