RPing with people while testing new diseases is fully possible. The moment I think for myself and theorycraft new viruses are in my free time not in game. However I had some very engaging talks while in game about many possible combinations for my diseases. For example security guard that helped me test the blob feature of this disease told me a tale of different virologist that used disease that turned him into a robot and could take point blank shotgun shot and be completely ok afterwards. Caused me to test that idea in the end discarded it since it didn’t work they way I wanted and I practically couldn’t talk with robotic voice box
I think my most emotional moment in RP comes from one of the tests to. That CMO incident i mentioned
I was that officer, i can confirm that i’ve seen Alex Knap RP improve, in terms of virology shenanigans, specially after his first 2 week ban, i unfortunately haven’t had the chance to play with him as a CMO so i lack knowledge if they seek proper authorization/rp a bit regarding private/public cultures
I do noticed that’s very common for me to see your character with that exact virus/variations of it, mostly spikes+tendrils since they’re the most visual ones, though it could be reasonable if you’re working on it and changing stuff slowly shift by shift(like one shift gets cut early and you have to restart from zero) a lot of virologists players go that route tbh alongside some other jobs that require a lot of test and practice
It’s not like he uses it to powergame in the sense of he actively uses their virus to get deputized and test it in combat experiences, i do agree it can raise an eyebrow seeing the character with the same virus every round but we can also apply the logic that he’s experimentating with it slowly changing different tresholds until his own research gets completed, as since he’s interested in talking with others he doesn’t spend the entire round on his lab, until as any other viro does, they move on with a different virus, it’s an interesting idea to use the blob-node as some sort of coccoon of protection while you regen-coma but it can take you by surprise, when we tested it i got mega surpised and the couple of blob spores almost broke down a window, it certainly need to be tested on a special area because yeah if you happen to die in the middle of medbay when we have 4-6 bodies that unfortunately can backfire into blobspores zombies beating people up, but if there’s enough RP involved it can be a… unique experience for medbay/sec to deal with, however if it happens every round you see the issue on it.
Finished my alternative disease without any active blob spores at the cost of some healing symptoms. When not antagonist and would like to use it for whatever reason I will use this version to not endanger people with this small risk of blob activation
Had to change -6 severity disease into +1 but i managed to do it.
I just got evidence for my virus not being op. Wanted to test nova star gloves interactions with necropolis seed (it might make it weaker?) and was stunbatoned taken to medbay, cured and taken to brig. Then I tried to escape using the disease they missed got free just to get arested again and cured from that to. As we can see competent security without need to murder people can easily deal with this disease.

Wiki, as much as I understand what you’re doing, the more you add to this report that has nothing to do with the round it refers to is only going to make processing it more painful and slow.
Just wait it out you did well enough justifying your actions this round!
Cheers!
This… hasn’t been handled yet? It’s been 3 or so months.
Alright. Looking at the conversation and logs, it looks like there was indeed an issue with the player minmaxxing the mechanics of virology to gain an advantage without any added RP or IC motivation.
However, this report is close to 10 months old now. Issuing any actions would be senseless, especially considering the activity of the concerned player past that incident.
As such, I’ll mark this as rejected.
We are sorry this was never handled properly in due time.
