And IC that’s classified information to everyone but the Captain, RD and maybe the Roboticist. Brain or not, they are a classified as a machine. Their interior is indifferent, what matters is their laws and that is absolute. (And Silicon policy)
They’re criminals or willingly gave up their rights!
NGL, I thought this was the point. NT is not exactly the good guys in this story, they’re just the side we are on. Ultimately they’re a weapons research corporation that sells to the highest bidder. (you can see this when testing science bombs)
That’s why NT has multiple types of brain controlling tech between mindshields and MMI that are hooked into enslaving machines.
So true.
It’s important to remember that just because something is unethical doesn’t mean it’s not in the game. Nanotrasen are just another egregore feasting on the misery of humanity.
The topic I was bringing up with that point wasn’t “people should treat machines like humans because they’re brains”, it was “more humanlike silicons aren’t immersion breaking, because they’re still fundamentally human brains”
I still adore every time someone goes “woah, the machines are acting with a lot of emotion today!” or “wtf why aren’t you a cold uncaring box?” because it’s intensely funny to just Be A Person.
Also, the AIs are literally downloaded into the core, their original brain is long gone. So is any new brain you put into a core. Once you become an AI there is no method to getting their brain back and they’re permanently a Silicon.
fair. Like, it’s probably not still a brain in there, but the mind could have come from a brain. Silicon or not, human mannerisms will probably still be remembered and apply.
Also, immersion is a meta-based concept to begin with. The character does not have immersion to break, so when considering if something does or does not break your immersion, metagaming doesn’t apply. If the AI is weirdly human, your character can be confused, but you as a player have a reasoning for that.
Yeah, because of shit like this, I just take it as one of those ‘informed lore’ things that is meant to be canon, but everyone ignores because it blatantly just isn’t. As far as I’m concerned, cyborgs having human brains a lot of the time is public knowledge
