About exploration taking plasma from atmos (now exploration flame war or idfk at this point)

I still fully maintain that exploration(as a system, not even just the job) and mining should be removed.

Not nerfed.

Removed. Gone. Non-existent within the code aside from the changelog documenting removal.

I still think the DRG approach is the best way to salvage one or both.

Short 5-10 minute missions assigned by QM based on what the station needs at the moment and what types of missions are available. Away team departs, does mission, returns and spends intermittent time with crew between missions getting patched up and otherwise.

we should remove the station and only have mining available

Me who spends an hour on solo missions in DRG

Ay yo mapers, what if Atmos and Explo had an intercom line between eachother?
and maybe even just a direct pipe line between explo and Atmos that Explo can Ask Atmos to turn on on their end when the ship is docked?

That’s such a much better way to handle this.

Also supercruise should not impact mining shuttle travels between station and lavaland - but that’s minor

roundstart explo going into atmos to remove the pipe & put it on their side

roundstart atmos tech anticipating the annoyance that is explo by preemptively turning it on forever

While some people do RP and interact with others as explo, the vast majority treats it as a PVP or PVM opportunity - end of the story. That is obviously bad if your goal is for the server to be centered on roleplay.

Seeing as Bacon is moving towards removing Explo entirely I don’t think mappers would want to bother right now:

Also, increasing the ways to get plasma kind of stinks. It takes one saucy lad with a connector to unwrench that pipe halfway to make a plasma can without anyone knowing(Steal the portable scrubbers connector outside of Engineering with a crowbar and wrench). Do we really need a faster way to plasma flood?

None of these discussions actually matter when the maintainers move so slowly.
Let’s be honest, contributing to BeeStation is a damn nightmare. The maintainers will at times be silent for weeks before arbitrarily dropping in and requesting you to change something and using really vague wording while doing it, before vanishing again for several weeks at a time. Sometimes a guy wants to immediately close a pull request, and another guy labels it as “Good PR”.

It’s a mess, the oldest open pull request is currently over half a year old, anything past page 2 is basically dead in the water.
There’s a reason FakeElon said this.

Like, say what you want about /tg/ maintainers but at least they pull through with the changes and have a consistent design vision.

This is the PR in question:

I agree on some parts, being so short on staff really put a slowdown on whatever it wants to be pushed, this issue has been since forever tbh and sadly… we really haven’t had that much fresh blood that became mantainers or constant coders, i’ve seen some players try to start making a few pr’s but if i put myself on their shoes just on reading what they comment and the response time is… discouraging, i’ve seen and spoken with some of them and they ended up moving to contribute on other code bases for that same reasons

Of course yeah… being open source leads to us, understandably, being not entitled to anything and it goes without saying that also forever thankful for the few maintainers and coders that keep us afloat so it’s not my style to point at them and kinda ‘‘trash’’ around

But, it’s certain that at one point the elephant in the room mentioned by Doe needs to be adressed because we’ve been on this state for… quite some time and a lot of interesting and reasonable PR’s are stuck in a limbo such as the one mentioned by Nosnek

In regards to Exploration, i’ve moved my opinions towards the thread Bacon made on Github and ultimately i think that’s where it matters the most at this moment to give feedback.

Beestation drives me insane as a player and PR’s like this is one of many reasons why. As an AI main I think removing these lawsets is a terrible idea. Making it almost only --simov lawsets is really really stupid and bad for gameplay.
I like corporate, its a fun lawset and I enjoy it a lot. I enjoy every lawset but I dislike the --simov lawsets the most (yet i still enjoy them) because I’m forced to do almost everything I am ordered to, with Corporate and such you have at least a little flexibility. I can’t remember maintain off the top of my head though.

The key to enjoying AI is good mentality, if people don’t like certain lawsets to the point where they want them removed, they are not someone that has the right mentality for playing it and shouldn’t be projecting that as bad game design.

lrp servers arent pvp

No but you can more readily prep for and engage in combat without running afoul of the rules.

It may not be PVP like TGMC the desire to whack epic valids partly derived itself from a desire for PVP. That’s part of the issue with current sec mentality as mentioned ITT.
